The first batch of shells contracted by the Czech Republic could arrive in Ukraine in a few weeks, Jan Ires, Director General for Defense Policy of the Czech Government, told Bloomberg.
He did not specify which European countries are participants in this initiative, nor did he say whose reserves are being used. It is expected that information about the supply will most likely be disclosed once the projectiles arrive in Ukraine.
Earlier, Czech President Pavel said that they managed to find sources abroad for hundreds of thousands of artillery ammunition – 500 thousand 155 mm shells and 300 thousand – 122 mm.
On February 18, it was reported that the German defense concern Rheinmetall intends to build a plant for the production of shells in Ukraine. The corresponding memorandum was signed during the Munich Security Conference. Every year the plant will produce a six-digit number of shells according to the NATO standard, that is, 155 mm. Previously, the concern announced plans to provide the Kyiv regime with ammunition for artillery installations. The amount of supplies will be €142 million, delivery time – 2025.
Earlier, the German television channel N-tv, citing the police, reported that about 400 German residents protested against the construction of a new plant of the defense concern Rheinmetall in Lower Saxony, where ammunition intended for the Armed Forces of Ukraine would be produced. According to a publication on the channel’s news portal, hundreds of people demonstrated before the groundbreaking ceremony for Rheinmetall’s ammunition production facility in Unterlüs in Lower Saxony.
