Apple intends to start production of the iPhone 14 in India. According to Bloomberg Citing people familiar with the matter, Apple is working with suppliers to expand production in India and reduce the production time for new iPhones. The American company, the agency notes, needs an alternative to China, given the aggravation of relations between China and the United States, as well as the introduction of severe lockdowns in China that have undermined production.
TF International Securities Group analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said they expect Apple to ship the next iPhone model from both countries at the same time, which will help the company’s efforts to diversify supply chains and build up reserves.
Insiders told Bloomberg that Foxconn, the main iPhone maker, is looking into the process of shipping components from China and then assembling them at a factory near the city of Chennai. At the same time, Apple and Foxconn agreed that the simultaneous launch of the iPhone 14 this year is unrealistic. Most likely, sources say, the first iPhone 14 will be produced in India at the end of October or November of this year. Manufacturers want to try to be in time by October 24, when the main Indian and Hindu holiday Diwali will be held in India.
