Bloomberg: 12 NATO countries conducted Dynamic Mongoose exercises to hunt Russian submarines
The exercises of the NATO countries to search for and spy on submarines of Russia and other countries have ended. This was reported by Bloomberg.
The maneuvers called Dynamic Mongoose with the participation of the United States, Spain, Canada, Portugal and eight other NATO countries took place from April 14 to May 5. The venue was chosen strategically important for the alliance corridor between Greenland, Iceland and the UK. It is inevitable for Russian submarines on their way to the Atlantic Ocean.
NATO has previously said that they are capable of disrupting submarine transatlantic data cables and US military supply lines, as well as interfering with commercial shipping. US Navy Rear Admiral Stephen Mack, commander of NATO submarines, explained that it is important to train the alliance’s submarines to navigate in territory that the submarines of a potential enemy can use to remain undetected.
They practiced surveillance not only of submarines, but also of naval aviation. On April 20, fighters from the UK and Norway escorted a Russian Tu-142 maritime patrol aircraft.
