Blogger Varlamov called getting a passport of Turkmenistan a joke

Ilya Varlamov, a well-known Russian video blogger who became famous in the field of analysis of architectural solutions and oppositional rhetoric, said that as a joke he published his photo with a passport of Turkmenistan. He did not change citizenship and cannot understand how one could want to get it in this Islamic country. About this popular urbanist told in his Telegram channel on Thursday, March 9.

Varlamov said that on the eve of March 8, he was happy to talk with a citizen of Turkmenistan about the dictatorship reigning in the state, about the new “crazy” laws, and also about “the tyranny of the Berdimuhamedovs.” After that, the blogger took a photo with the passport of this country. “The idea that someone would voluntarily want to get a Turkmen passport, and even brag about it, seemed so utterly absurd to me that I decided to post the photo as a joke,” Varlamov said. “I was sure no one would believe it. It’s like (say – ed.): “Friends, I decided to move to North Korea.” But suddenly the joke took on a life of its own.” The man was surprised to say that his friends and acquaintances began to congratulate him, and some even envied him and asked how to obtain citizenship of Turkmenistan. Other friends noticed that the color of the passport of this country matches the color of the eyes of a famous blogger. “Journalists started writing news (hello to Vedomosti, Kommersant and others), and no one wanted to take a comment from me,” Varlamov added. – But in vain. Yesterday was March 8th. While some women received flowers, others protested against violence and discrimination.”

In this regard, according to the celebrity, it would be right to pay attention to the oppression of the fair sex in Turkmenistan. Further, the blogger listed the latest innovations that were made by the local authorities. In particular, women in Turkmenistan were forbidden to drive a car and even ride in the front seat, all beauty salons were closed in the country and a de facto ban on abortions was introduced. In addition, the fair sex cannot even “sit with a man on a bench if they are not married.”

“After Gurbanguly’s son came to power, a real nightmare began for women in the country,” Varlamov emphasized. “More and more absurd laws and prohibitions are being adopted every day.” The blogger added that no one writes about these human rights violations. The Western media do not investigate, the leaders of democratic countries do not express concern. “No one cares about the problems of the Turkmen,” Varlamov concluded. “Most people perceive Turkmenistan as an outlandish eastern country. And this is one of the most brutal dictatorships today.”
