Blogger sentenced to 200 hours of work for slandering Nikita Mikhalkov

The world court in Nizhny Novgorod found Alexander Fayb, director general of Moscow-based Mediamarker LLC, guilty of slandering director Nikita Mikhalkov, which was publicly circulated online. Defendant Faib did not attend the verdict. Magistrate Oksana Galdina sentenced the man in absentia to 200 hours of compulsory work.
The media manager was convicted for the Internet video “Nikita Mikhalkov cuts down the Russian forest. The reaction of people”, distributed on behalf of anonymous eco-bloggers. The shooting claimed that for the production of furniture, Mikhalkov’s company Temino-Lesnoye was engaged in uncontrolled logging in the Tumbotinsky reserve of the Pavlovsky district of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
According to the police, the investigation department and then investigators from the Nizhny Novgorod police department did a lot of work to check the content of the video and establish who posted it on the Nizhny Novgorod Ecopatrol YouTube channel. As a result of the investigation, they came to the conclusion that there were no illegal logging, and the reputation of Nikita Mikhalkov was tarnished by false allegations.
One of the members of the film crew wrote a confession and gave evidence to the police about the production of the video, the criminal libel case against her was terminated due to repentance. The verdict to Alexander Faib has not entered into force and can be appealed.
