Blocking of Russian media sites in Moldova: “pug” Sandu teasing the West

Residents of the country are being driven into an information vacuum

The Information and Security Service of Moldova announced the blocking of 31 websites of leading Russian media. Among them is the website of Moskovsky Komsomolets – not a state-owned, but an independent publication. Allowing yourself to have your own opinion about what is happening around you. In today’s Moldova, apparently, this is a terrible crime.

Amazing thing. As soon as any post-Soviet republic announces its course towards a “free Europe”, the rights and freedoms of the citizens of such a country begin to rapidly shrink.

During the three years of her reign, Romanian citizen Maia Sandu did nothing in Moldova to boost the country’s economy and strengthen the well-being of her people. But she is methodically finishing off the remnants of the judicial and legal system of the state, which no longer even has its own language: instead of Moldavian, Romanian is now considered the official language in the country.

The entire ruling elite are someone’s uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, to whom all the tidbits in the state are given. It is clear that the media, not controlled by the Moldovan authorities, which allow themselves to note these facts, which are not very consistent with the course towards Europe, cause the current leadership of Moldova to gnashing their teeth. And, since it is not able to create, all that remains is to “frighten and not let go.”

The easiest way, of course, is to block Moldovans’ access to alternative sources of information. So that, as in Ukraine, all day long they watch only a single pro-government telethon, more reminiscent of an endless “five minutes of hatred.” In a complete information vacuum, it is more convenient to talk about non-existent victories and achievements.

The fact that the Moldovan authorities chose the sites of Russian media and television channels to attack is also very significant. In Europe today the trend is towards everything “anti-Russian”, and the habit of “small mosquitoes” to tease is ineradicable. Only states with their own national interests can now afford to have their own opinions and free media. Moldova, of course, is not one of them.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has already stated that such actions by the Moldovan authorities are an outrage against the principle of media pluralism and a gross violation of the right to freedom of access to information; Moscow also qualifies this as a “cynical infringement of the rights of national minorities.” This was said, rather, for the world community, and not for the Moldovan authorities. Who, it seems, have never heard of such concepts at all.
