Black TV presenter called the colonization of Africa “pure positive”

Conservative columnist Candice Owens statedthat British colonization of Africa was ultimately a positive development. She announced this in response to the demands of anti-monarchists after the death of Elizabeth II to return the stolen jewelry to the former colonies.

Supporters of democracy recalled that as a result of the actions of the British imperialists, who controlled 30% of the continent, many local states were destroyed. Sociologists argue that many African countries are still suffering from the harmful effects of colonialism.

However, according to Owens, the British who invaded the continent brought civilization to it, which in the end was a “net plus”.

“For some reason, people think that Africans lived happily ever after, and everything was fine. But the terrible English and French attacked and killed everyone. This is simply not true, obviously, the African peoples had slavery just like the Europeans, ”said the TV presenter.

She recalled that the Africans sold their compatriots to the Americans for gin and mirrors. In addition, it was white people who abolished slavery all over the world.

Kehinde Andrews, professor of black studies at the School of Social Sciences at Birmingham City University in the UK, condemned Owens’ remarks, calling them “meaningless.” He noted that the TV presenter built her career as the black face of white racism, and one could not expect anything else from her.

“The truth is that the queen, along with the nation, derived her wealth from the enslavement of Africans and forced colonialism in the largest empire the world has ever known,” Andrews said.
