‘Biophilic’ skyscraper with 80,000 plants opens in Singapore

Recently in Singapore ended the construction of the CapitaSpring skyscraper, with a soaring facade of glass and aluminum, which is covered with plants and trees growing tens of meters from the ground. There is a “Green Oasis” – a spiral garden path that passes by exercise machines, benches through four floors of tropical flora.
At 280 meters tall, CapitaSpring is now one of the tallest skyscrapers in the Asian city-state. The building is privately owned by real estate giants CapitaLand and Mitsubishi Estate, with corporate tenants including investment bank JP Morgan. But in line with the government’s desire to ensure Singapore’s business district offers residents more than just office space, the developer has opened up some of the tower’s landscaped areas for public use.
On the top floor of the building, visitors can walk around the 4,500-square-foot rooftop farm. Fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers grow here, there are three restaurants. The garden produces every month from 70 to 100 kilograms of vegetables and fruits.
In total, the 51-story building houses over 80,000 trees and plants in 90,000 square feet of landscaped grounds, which also includes a covered plaza with shade.
. According to the Danish firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), which designed the tower in collaboration with Carlo Ratti Associati, most of the plant species found on the site are native to Singapore and are thus adapted to the year-round heat and humidity.
