Bill Gates predicted “fantastic” changes in human life after the introduction of artificial intelligence

It’s no secret that billionaire Bill Gates is bullish on artificial intelligence, but he is now predicting that AI technology will change everyone’s lives within the next five years. He promises “fantastic” innovations in some areas.

The development of artificial intelligence, notes CNN, has raised fears that the technology will lead to the elimination of millions of jobs around the world. The International Monetary Fund this week said AI developments could affect about 40% of jobs worldwide.

Bill Gates doesn’t necessarily disagree with this view, but he believes that history shows that with every new technology comes fear, and then new opportunities.

“Like we had with agricultural productivity in 1900, people were asking, ‘Hey, what are people going to do?’ “In fact, a lot of new things have been created, a lot of new categories of jobs have been created, and we’re much better off than we were when everyone was farming,” Gates says. “That’s how it will continue to be.”

In an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria on Tuesday, Bill Gates predicted that artificial intelligence will make life easier for everyone, specifically pointing to helping doctors with paperwork, which is “a part of the job that they don’t like, we can make it very efficient.”

Because there’s no need for “a lot of new hardware,” Bill Gates said AI will be accessed through “the phone or PC you’re already connected to, the internet connection you already have.”

The billionaire also said the improvements with the ChatGPT-4 chatbot have been “impressive” because it can “essentially read and write,” so it’s “almost as if the white collar worker was a tutor, giving health advice, helped write code, helped with technical support calls.” Gates said the adoption of this technology in the education or healthcare sectors would be “fantastic.”

As CNN notes, Microsoft has entered into a multi-billion dollar partnership with OpenAI. And Bill Gates remains one of Microsoft’s largest shareholders.

“The goal of the Gates Foundation is to make sure that the lag between people in poor countries getting help and getting to rich countries is very short,” Gates said at the World Economic Forum in Davos. “After all, the shortage of doctors and teachers is much worse in Africa than in the West.”

The IMF was much less optimistic in its report this week. The group said artificial intelligence would worsen inequality without policy intervention.

Gates is worth $140 billion, making him the fourth richest person on Earth, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. But he would probably still be the richest man in the world if he had not committed to giving away all his money.

The billionaire told CNN he is not worried about losing his fortune.

“I have more than enough money for my own consumption,” Gates said when Zakaria asked how the charity was going. “I force myself to go down the list, and I will be proud when I give up completely.”

The Microsoft co-founder and his ex-wife Melinda French Gates have pledged to donate the vast majority of their fortune to the foundation they founded together 20 years ago, as well as other charities.

In 2022, Gates announced the foundation’s intention to allocate $9 billion annually by 2026. He said he is “excited that this will have such a big impact” on the organizations he is highlighting it to.

He said he and partners such as Warren Buffett have donated about $100 billion to his fund. With an income of $9 billion a year, Gates expects to give away all his money in about 20 years.
