Biden: US ready to send additional military forces to the Middle East

The United States is ready to deploy additional military forces to the Middle East if the need arises. American President Joe Biden stated this in his treatment to the nation in connection with the attack by Palestinian militants on Israel.

“We are prepared to move our additional assets as needed. Let me say again to any country, any organization, anyone who is thinking of taking advantage of this situation <...> “Don’t do this,” he said.

The American president called the Hamas attack on Israel “an act of pure evil,” confirming the death of 14 US citizens as a result of the incident. In addition, an unspecified number of Americans were taken hostage, Biden said. He noted that he had directed his team to send additional experts from across the US government to consult with Israeli counterparts on the return of the hostages.

Israel, he added, has the right and obligation to respond to such attacks. If the United States were faced with a similar situation, the authorities’ response would be “swift, decisive and overwhelming.”

The US has “strengthened its military position” in the region by deploying a carrier strike group to the eastern Mediterranean, Biden said. The White House is also planning to ask Congress to take urgent action to fund Israel’s national security needs. “This is not about party or politics. We are talking about the security of our world, the security of the United States,” he believes. In the United States itself, the president emphasized, measures to ensure the safety of the Jewish population were also strengthened.

Earlier, John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, said that Washington had already delivered the first military aid to Israel and announced an announcement about the allocation of additional funds in the coming days. He clarified that, if necessary, the administration will turn to the US Congress for additional funding for Tel Aviv.

On the morning of October 7, Hamas began military operations against Israel. In response, the Israeli army launched Operation Iron Swords. The government announced that the country had entered a state of war. According to the Israeli Embassy in the United States, the attack by the Palestinian radical organization Hamas in Israel killed about 1,000 people and injured more than 3,400. Among the dead are four Russian citizens, the Russian Embassy in Tel Aviv reported earlier. On the evening of October 9, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported 687 deaths in the Gaza Strip, including 140 children. About 3,800 people were injured.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called the worsening situation in the Middle East a clear example of the failure of US policy in this region. In his assessment, Washington’s actions did not take into account the “core interests” of the Palestinian people and the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state.
