A document published by the administration of US President Joe Biden stated its plans to request additional funding from Congress in the amount of $1.55 billion to combat the spread of the dangerous drug fentanyl.
“Fighting fentanyl: $1.55 billion,” reads the table with the request to congressmen.
As specified, these funds will be used for grants for the treatment of addicts, harm reduction programs and rehabilitation support, covering the entire territory of the country.
Biden has previously asked Congress to allocate $1.2 billion through the Department of Homeland Security and an additional $23 million through the Justice Department to combat the drug. The funds were intended to strengthen inspections, increase the number of border patrol officers, and more strictly control and monitor the distribution of fentanyl throughout the country.
