US President Joe Biden said that Washington would not make it easier for Ukraine to join NATO. He noted that Kyiv must meet all the requirements that apply to members of the alliance.
According to the White House press pool, Biden responded negatively to the question of whether the action plan for Ukraine to join NATO, which implies a series of reforms, will be canceled for Ukraine.
“We won’t make it easy for them,” Biden said, adding that Ukraine must meet the same standards as other members.
Earlier, Politico reported that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg privately proposed to the allies to agree on the cancellation of the action plan for Ukraine on membership in the alliance in order to accelerate its entry into the organization after the end of the conflict. At the same time, the media noted that allegedly US President Joe Biden was open to the abolition of this mechanism for Ukraine.
