Biden promised to do everything to return Americans convicted in Russia

The US President again promised the relatives of Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan to use every opportunity to return their loved ones to their homeland. He stated this at a meeting with the families of convicts in Russia. The outcome of the meeting was devoted to the statement of the press secretary of the White House Karine Jean-Pierre.
The text of the statement said the president met with Whelan and Griner’s relatives to reaffirm their continued commitment to the safe return of Americans home.
Earlier it became known and the continuation of negotiations between Washington and Moscow on the release of convicts. John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, announced this on Friday at a press conference.
Brittney Greiner was sentenced in August of this year by the Khimki city court to ten years in a penal colony for drug smuggling and possession. Paul Whelan was found guilty of espionage by the Moscow City Court in June 2020 and sentenced to 16 years in prison.
