Biden orders up to $126 million in aid to Ukraine
American leader Joe Biden has instructed US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to allocate up to $126 million in aid to Ukraine, as stated in a memorandum published on the official White House website on March 12.
The document states: “I am delegating authority to the Secretary of State to determine the importance of up to $126 million in assistance to Ukraine in the interests of U.S. security.”
Biden expressed dissatisfaction with the new military aid package for Ukraine, calling it insufficient. It was previously announced that on March 12, the United States would send a new package of military assistance to Ukraine worth about $300 million.
According to the information, this assistance package will include the Stinger man-portable air defense system and air defense ammunition. 84 anti-tank missiles and 155mm shells will also be provided.
Newspaper Politico announced the US intention to supply ATACMS missiles to Ukraine worth $300 million. In addition to this, the aid package will also include additional rounds for 155mm howitzers and a guided multiple launch rocket system.
On March 12, Politico also noted that the Pentagon does not have the funds to replace the weapons transferred to Kyiv. Lack of funding from Congress could negatively impact the US Armed Forces.
The day before, the White House published a draft budget for the fiscal year 2025. The US presidential administration requested $61.4 billion from Congress to help Ukraine. Total defense spending in 2025 is projected to be $850 billion, $34 billion more than the 2024 budget.
