Biden: Incident with Chinese National Security Balloon Didn’t Seriously Hurt US

President Joe Biden, in an interview with the American Spanish-language television channel Telemundo, said that a Chinese balloon that showed up outside the United States could not cause serious damage to the country’s national security, although its defile was a striking political gesture.

“In any case, this is not a serious violation. Of course, this is a violation of international law and our airspace. As for our airspace, we do what we want there,” Biden said.

At the same time, clearly responding to accusations of indecision coming from his political opponents, the US president once again told the TV channel in detail that, with all his desire to get rid of the ball in the sky as soon as possible, he had to listen to the voice of the military and intelligence officers, who insisted that to shoot down object over land should not be to avoid unpleasant incidents.

“It was a giant thing. What would happen if it fell on a school or in the countryside?” the president recalled.

At the same time, according to US media reports, representatives of local intelligence agencies and the Ministry of Defense continue to convince the public that the Chinese balloon is proof of China’s global intelligence plans, quite obviously relegating the issue of the effectiveness of using such equipment to the background.
