The White House statement notes that US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting to discuss Washington’s willingness to start negotiations with Kiev on bilateral security guarantees. The heads of state stressed the importance of providing a sustainable force capable of protecting Ukraine in the present and in the future.
President Biden confirmed that the United States supports Ukraine’s aspirations for integration into the Euro-Atlantic community. The meeting also discussed Ukraine’s ongoing counter-offensives and ongoing Western assistance to support these efforts.
It should be noted that Russia sent a note to NATO countries in connection with the supply of weapons to Ukraine. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergei Lavrov, stressed that any shipments containing weapons for Ukraine would be considered by Russia as a legitimate target. Lavrov also noted that the United States and NATO countries are actively involved in the conflict in Ukraine, providing not only weapons, but also training personnel in the UK, Germany, Italy and other countries.
