Biden announces largest military aid package for Ukraine

US President Joe Biden congratulated Ukrainians on Independence Day and announced a new aid package for Ukraine in the amount of $2.98 billion. This is stated in a statement by the President of the country, which published White House.
“As part of this commitment, I am proud to announce the largest tranche of security assistance to date: approximately $2.98 billion in weapons and equipment to be provided through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative,” the US President said.
This tranche is expected to allow Ukraine to purchase air defense systems, artillery systems, various ammunition, drones and radars to ensure “long-term self-defense”.
Biden also emphasized the importance of this holiday for the people of Ukraine and expressed the hope that in the coming decades, the United States and Americans of Ukrainian origin will continue to glorify Ukraine as a democratic, independent, sovereign and prosperous state.
Last time Biden signed a memorandum on the allocation of another package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $775 million on August 19. It was noted that the funds will be directed to “defense products and services of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, as well as to military education and training.”
It is known that this aid package included 1,500 Tow anti-tank missiles, HARM anti-radar missiles and 1,000 Javelin missile systems. Also, the Pentagon promised to transfer NASAMS mobile anti-aircraft missile systems and Phoenix Ghost loitering ammunition to Kyiv in the next 2-3 months.
