Biden administration proposes its own version of the reform of the UN Security Council
[ad_1]
How the UN Security Council is Formed
There are five permanent members in the Security Council – powers – winners in the Second World War. These are Russia (until 1991 – the USSR), the USA, Great Britain, France and the People’s Republic of China (until 1971 the place was occupied by Taiwan as the assignee of the pre-war Republic of China). Another 10 non-permanent members are elected by the UN General Assembly (five each year). These elections follow a geographical principle: non-permanent members must represent different continents and regions of the world. Now it is Albania from Eastern Europe, Malta and Switzerland from Western Europe, Gabon, Ghana, Mozambique, UAE and Japan from Africa and Asia, Brazil and Ecuador from Latin America.
