Bertrand Traoré joins Basaksehir Istanbul

Burkinabe international striker Bertrand Traoré, player of English club Aston Villa, will play for Basaksehir Istanbul this season, the Turkish club announced on Saturday.
“A signing ceremony for footballer Bertrand Traoré, with whom our club has reached an agreement, will take place on Monday August 22 at 11 a.m.”Basaksehir said in a tweet, without specifying whether it was a transfer or a loan.
According to the leading Turkish sports daily Fanatik, the captain of the Burkina Faso selection (66 caps, 13 goals), who arrived in Istanbul on Saturday, should be loaned for one season by Aston Villa.
“The choice was clear in my head, I wanted to come to Basaksehir”said the player upon his arrival at Istanbul airport, where he was greeted by supporters.
The 26-year-old ex-Lyonnais signed in September 2020 with Aston Villa for 18.4 million euros.
The Burkinabè started his pro career in the Premier League with Chelsea, who notably loaned him to Ajax Amsterdam.
2020 Turkish champion, Basaksehir finished 4th in the Süper Lig last season.
The Istanbul club, with which German playmaker Mesut Özil signed in July, is known for its close ties with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
