Germany has decided to send a brigade of about 4,000 troops to Lithuania in order to contain the potential threat from Russia. According to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, the decision was taken in response to pressure from Lithuanian officials who insisted on more drastic measures to prevent Russian aggression.
Initially, Germany planned to deploy troops on its territory, but it was decided to transfer them to Lithuania, due to the special circumstances and geopolitical position of the country, located between Russian Kaliningrad and Belarus.
This military deployment, according to Boris Pistorius, contributes to the renewal of the Alliance’s defense position in the eastern direction and reflects the concerns of the Baltic countries. It is emphasized that Russia can take forceful actions against Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia, and therefore it is necessary to take appropriate measures.
