The German authorities will allocate $ 10.5 billion from the defense budget for the purchase of American stealth multifunctional fifth-generation fighter-bomber F-35, reports Bloomberg.
The agency clarifies that in total Germany plans to purchase 35 of these vehicles, which should enter the country’s armed forces from 2026 to 2029. Also, the American side will supply new air-to-ground missiles along with these aircraft and create ground infrastructure.
Recall that on November 30, at the Berlin Security Conference, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the country needed new aircraft so that it would “contribute to nuclear participation” in NATO. Despite the fact that the German armed forces do not have their own nuclear weapons, Bundeswehr aircraft can carry American nuclear warheads in the event of hostilities.
