The Administrative Court of Berlin allowed the display of Russian flags and symbols at events on May 8 and 9, when Germany will celebrate the 78th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. About it informs portal rbb24 with reference to the police, which decided to challenge the decision of the court.
The Berlin police had previously imposed a ban on the use of Russian and Ukrainian flags on May 8 and 9 at Soviet memorials in Treptow Park, Tiergarten and Schoenholzer Heide Park. Later it became known that the administrative court of Berlin lifted the ban on wearing the Ukrainian flag at Soviet memorials.
According to rbb24, on the evening of May 6, the ban on the use of Russian symbols at an event on the street on June 17 was urgently appealed. A court in Berlin, according to the police, ruled “against the general ruling”, after which the police decided to file a complaint with the next instance – the Higher Administrative Court.
The Russian Embassy in Germany strongly rejects the decision of the Berlin authorities to ban the demonstration on May 8 and 9 of symbols associated with Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War, Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev said earlier.
In addition to the Russian flag, the demonstration was also banned from the symbols associated with Victory Day: the Banner of Victory, the flag of the USSR, the St. George ribbon, elements of historical military uniforms and songs of the war years, the ambassador listed.
