Berlin will deploy German Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems in Poland, not Ukraine, as Warsaw wanted, informed Polish Minister of Defense Mariusz Blaszczak on his Twitter.
“After talking with the German Ministry of Defense, I was disappointed to accept their decision to reject support for Ukraine. The deployment of Patriot complexes in western Ukraine would increase the security of Poles and Ukrainians,” he wrote.
The parties are starting to place the complexes and connect them to the Polish control system, the minister added.
The German Cabinet confirmed the achievement of agreements on the deployment of these weapons in Poland, transmits “RIA News”. First, a group of German experts will go to the country at the site of the immediate future deployment of the Patriot.
Earlier, German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht announced an agreement on patrolling Polish airspace by German Eurofighter fighters and the deployment of Patriot air defense systems in the country. In Poland, they came up with the idea of deploying German Patriots in Ukraine, and not in their own country. Germany responded that preferred to leave their air defense systems in the NATO air defense system.
The negotiations between Berlin and Warsaw were preceded by the incident with the fall of a rocket in Poland, which killed two people. On November 16, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that specialists had identified the wreckage from photographs from the missile crash site in Poland as elements of the Ukrainian S-300 missile system. US President Joe Biden, at a meeting with the leaders of the G7 countries and NATO, said that a Ukrainian air defense (air defense) missile fell on the territory of Poland.
