Belarus has joined international treaties within the framework of the SCO

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed the law “On the accession of the Republic of Belarus to international treaties within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.” Document published on the national legal portal of the republic.
According to the law, Belarus accedes to 22 SCO documents in the process of “obtaining the status of a member state” of the organization. Among them are the SCO charter, agreements on cooperation in customs affairs, in the fight against crime, in the field of education, on conducting military exercises, as well as conventions against terrorism, on countering extremism, etc.
In addition, the Council of Ministers was instructed to take measures to formalize the country’s participation in these international treaties.
On June 30, the law was approved by the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus.
On July 4, within the framework of the SCO summit chaired by India, the leaders of the countries of the organization signed a memorandum on the commitments of Belarus to join the SCO. The signing of the document launches the procedure for joining the republic to the association as a member country.
The SCO was founded in 2001 by Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Later, Pakistan and India joined the association as full members. Also July 4 in the SCO entered Iran. Now Belarus is a member of the organization in the status of an observer state. Afghanistan and Mongolia have the same status.
