Belarus expects that its application to join the BRICS will be considered as a priority, declared Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country Sergei Aleinik on the air of the program “Contours” on ONT.

“Belarus is counting on the speedy consideration of the application, which we officially submitted in May. In the course of our contacts with the BRICS member countries, with partner countries, we received clear statements that our application is a priority and it will be considered,” he said.

Aleinik added that within the framework of BRICS, Minsk intends to promote work on the issue of sustainable economic development, and Belarus also advocates the creation of more equitable international payment systems.

In addition, Belarus proposes to hold a joint summit of representatives of the BRICS, SCO, EAEU. “We are confident that such an initiative will be developed and will allow the leaders of these associations to discuss a unifying agenda aimed at sustainable economic development, at creating better conditions for trade, the well-being of our citizens and the development of our countries,” Aleinik added.

Earlier in August, following the results of the BRICS summit in South Africa, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates received official invitations to join the bloc. Full membership of new countries in the organization will begin on January 1, 2024. Belarus has not received such an invitation.
