Belarus and China called peace settlement in Ukraine without alternative

Foreign Ministers of Belarus and China Sergei Aleinik and Qin Gang consider that there is no alternative to a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This was reported in the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

“The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Aleinik had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Qin Gang. We noted the coincidence of positions on the absence of an alternative to a peaceful way of resolving the conflict in Ukraine,” the message reads (quote according to TASS).

The ministry added that the parties paid “special attention to the situation in Ukraine, discussed peaceful initiatives to resolve the crisis put forward by the Chinese side.” In particular, the ministers discussed preparations for the visit of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to China.

February 23 Lukashenka informedthat Chinese President Xi Jinping will make a statement about the military operation in Ukraine. “Please note that this is such an unusual step for Chinese politics. The Chinese are always careful, careful. They don’t go where they don’t need to. If they understand that this will not give the desired, required result, they will not take steps in this direction either,” the Belarusian president said.

Earlier today, China presented a 12-point position on the peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. The country’s Foreign Ministry proposed to respect the sovereignty of all countries in accordance with the UN Charter, stop hostilities and facilitate the start of a dialogue between Moscow and Kyiv, as well as assist the world community in restoring the affected areas after the end of hostilities.

After that, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen informedthat the EU is ready to study the document proposed by China, but at the same time they will take into account the friendly relations between Russia and China.
