Beijing invited Putin to the Belt and Road Forum

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been invited to China for the One Belt, One Road International Forum as the main guest. This was announced by the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev at the Russian-Chinese consultations on public security, justice and law and order.
“We are grateful for the invitation to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to take part as the main guest in the third Belt and Road Forum,” he said (quote according to TASS).
Chinese President Xi Jinping paid an official visit to Russia on March 20-22. During the trip, he invited Putin and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to come to Beijing. Xi Jinping clarified that he invited the Russian leader to visit Beijing “at a convenient time for him” in 2023, since this year China will host the third international forum within the framework of the “One Belt – One Road”. He added that Putin had taken part in the previous two forums.
In March, during a meeting in Moscow with Mishustin, Xi Jinping noted that Beijing attaches great importance to cooperation in linking this initiative with the Eurasian Economic Union.
One Belt One Road is a Chinese infrastructure project launched in 2013. The initiative connects more than 60 states of Central Asia, Europe and Africa.
