Beglov linked his conflict with Prigogine to “dirty and greedy business”

The Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov commented on his conflict with the founder of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin. According to him, he is associated with a “dirty business”, which tried to control the field of social catering, garbage collection and subway construction.
“The conflict was between the city and dirty business, greedy businessmen who wanted to take control of all branches of the city economy. Previously, they succeeded, and where this dirty business went, the city had a hard time, ”said Alexander Beglov on the air of the TV channel “78”.
Mr. Beglov added that he deliberately did not react to provocations. “First, he tries by all means to make the authorities his accomplices, and when this fails, he creates the image of the enemy, spinning it through controlled information resources,” he said.
Alexander Beglov also commented on information about possible plans to seize Yevgeny Prigozhin’s property in St. Petersburg. According to him, the city treats “any property with respect”. Mr. Beglov noted that if the property of a businessman turns out to be illegal, then law enforcement agencies should deal with this.
The conflict between Yevgeny Prigozhin and Alexander Beglov has been going on for several years. In October 2022 Evgeny Prigozhin asked The Prosecutor General’s Office to check Mr. Beglov on the possible fact of “creation of an organized criminal community” within the administration of St. Petersburg, in November – under the article on treason. In April 2023, Mr. Prigozhin also stated in a letter to the State Duma that since 2019 the transport and waste reforms have “failed” in the city, utilities cannot cope with winter cleaning, and tariffs for housing and communal services and major repairs are rising.
