Before the New Year holidays in shopping centers and online stores – the traditional “heat”. And every year at the end of December, sellers lure at the same time with a whip (promises that it will be more expensive from the new year) and a carrot (discount promotions). In which sectors of the market the gingerbread is the fattest, and where in 2022 it is not at all, MK found out.

First, the main thing: although in some cases we are talking more about decorations (“crossed out” price is clearly higher than the market, and “promotional” corresponds to the market), there are really spectacular discounts. So, for example, in a metropolitan store dealing with designer wallpaper, you can buy a dozen types of wallpaper for 800 rubles per roll (against 6-7 thousand rubles per roll without a discount).

“Hunting for promotions every year more and more turns into gambling entertainment: you can “win,” that is, save thousands of rubles,” Elena Abashyan, organizer of collective online purchases, told MK. – Sometimes in the morning you see discounts, in the evening you go to the same marketplace, but they are gone. Professionals have a subscription to profile chats and bots that report specific discounts.

Sales in grocery stores (online and offline) are quite popular. Just before the New Year, they reduce prices for those products that are in demand for the festive table, and in January they will not be so out of place. Let’s say, starting from December 25, serious discounts on red caviar appeared in some fish stores.

Sparkling wines, cakes, sweets and some other products on one of the popular marketplaces are allocated to a separate category of “New Year’s” products, for which a discount of up to 60% is applied. In reality, the maximum discount applies to inexpensive varieties of sparkling wine and boxes of chocolates – a joy for those who have not succumbed to thrift neurosis and can now buy gift sets spontaneously.

The second sector where stocks are serious is travel and airline tickets. For example, tickets from Moscow to Abakan, Nizhnekamsk, Khanty-Mansiysk, Yekaterinburg, Ufa, Orsk, Volgograd, Tomsk, Bishkek, as well as to Bangkok, Tehran, Bukhara, Fergana, Male, Tashkent can be “caught” at a price of 2023 rubles. – however, in one direction and almost certainly with “cheat” typical for low-cost airlines.

As for vouchers, Crimea has become quite “promotional” this year: hotels and sanatoriums give discounts of 30-50% for the New Year holidays. You can rent a room from 2,500 rubles per day, five-star hotels cost up to 10,000 rubles. As hoteliers assure, some hotels are already “to the eyeballs”.

However, the discount indicator shows well where “sold-out” is really, and not declaratively observed. In the hotels and holiday homes of the Golden Ring, it is already difficult to find accommodation there, and vacant rooms are rented at higher prices due to demand. Foreign “last-minute” tours also did not turn out to be too cheap: due to the December growth of the dollar, the desired discounts of up to 25% did not work out.

Of the goods that are traditionally considered durable, electronics, especially gadgets, have the most shares. Household appliances, on the contrary, do not fall in price: sellers are frightening with price increases from next year.

Before the New Year, it is traditionally profitable to buy real estate. Sellers began to offer buyers solid discounts, provided that the deal is closed before the holidays. In particular, the promotions concern private houses: discounts reach 5% for new houses and up to 15–20% for the secondary private sector.

Where there are no discounts at all – this is in the car market. Employees of dealerships, when asked about discounts, spoke primarily about the upcoming large-scale rise in price: it is profitable to buy a car before the New Year.

In stores of consumer goods – clothing, cosmetics and perfumes – they decided not to refuse New Year’s sales. Expect to take the quantity. In addition, the New Year is a good reason to put into circulation something that has long been stale in the warehouse.

“Recently, I saw on the website of a large perfume store a set of mini perfume bottles, which I bought a year ago for 8,000 rubles. Now it costs 4,500 rubles, it has almost halved in price! ”, Beauty blogger Oksana Polyakova shares with subscribers.

Especially generous in terms of discounts are their own sites of cosmetic brands – those that seek to attract customers directly, bypassing large network retailers. So, for example, a set of French cosmetics in festive packaging on the “native” website can now be ordered for 1900 rubles, while in a chain store they sell exactly the same for 4200.

As for clothing stores, here the New Year’s sale with 30% discounts is the most obvious way to attract a buyer. And after all, the benefit is nowhere clearer: if, for example, on December 10, a conditional sweater marked “new collection” hung under the price tag of 8999 rubles, then on December 25 you can buy it for 6200 – discounts!
