British scientists from the University of Sheffield study strategies of honey bees in making decisions on the search for nectar and managed to create a computer model based on it for decision making by artificial intelligence. In the future, this model will be able to control autonomous robots with a high degree of accuracy and fit into compact structures.

Scientists note that a bee has a brain the size of a sesame seed, but it contains millions of neurons that have improved decision-making algorithms over the years of evolution. As a result, the bee can make a lightning-fast decision to land on a particular flower in search of nectar or fly further. In an experiment where bees were released into an artificial garden with five different colors of flowers and varying amounts of nectar, the bees were able to make decisions in 0.6 seconds. Scientists have found in this the potential to improve AI circuits, as a result of which robots can become more efficient and smarter.
