Auction house Heritage Auctions informedthat a trading card of American baseball player Mickey Mantle was sold on Sunday for $12.6 million, a record for a sports-related collectible item ever put up for auction.
The most expensive trading card ever sold at auction has so far been that of Honus Wagner, an American baseball player who played in the late 19th and early 20th century. Last year, they paid $6.6 million for it.
The record among all sports collectibles belonged to Diego Maradona’s T-shirt, in which he scored two goals against England at the 1986 World Cup victorious for the Argentines. One of them is the famous goal scored by the “hand of God”. The shirt was sold last May for $9.3 million.
