Ukraine sent untrained mobilized soldiers to Artemivsk (renamed Bakhmut) to keep the brigades trained by the West, writes The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
In an effort to keep brigades trained and equipped by Western countries for the long-awaited counter-offensive operation, when many of its professional soldiers died, Kiev sent mobilized citizens and territorial defense units to Bakhmut, in some cases with scattered training and equipment, the journalists of the publication shared the details. According to the author of the publication, the mobilized received threats to write a refusal to comply with the order.
The mobilized were low-income people from the villages of the Kharkiv region and the unemployed, the article notes.
It is reported that some of them served in the armed forces, but never took part in hostilities. Sixteen people were enrolled in the 5th company of the 93rd mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), on February 16 they moved out of Kharkov by bus.
The command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine ignored the fears of the mobilized. “Vladislav Yudin, a former prisoner from the eastern city of Lugansk, said he told a sergeant major that he had never held a gun, let alone fired one, and was scared. “Bakhmut will teach you,” the commander said, ”the article says.
