Bad weather left about 70 thousand residents of Dagestan without electricity

Strong winds and snowfall that began on the afternoon of January 10 caused power outages in more than 40 settlements of Dagestan. According to the common Wednesday morning message press service of the Republican Ministry of Energy, 60 thousand people were left without electricity. A little later, this figure grew to almost 70 thousand people.
From seven o’clock in the morning, the press service of Dagenergo reported, power engineers were transferred to a special mode of operation.
Gusts of wind today, January 11, reached a speed of 15–20 m/s. Makhachkala, as well as Kayakentsky, Derbentsky, Khasavyurtovsky, Kumtorkalinsky and Shamilsky districts of the republic were in the zone of special risk. To eliminate the consequences of bad weather, 30 teams of power engineers were mobilized.
By 17:00 Moscow time, reported press office North Caucasian “Rosseti”, power supply was restored to 55% of consumers left without electricity.
In the middle of the day, the number of emergency recovery teams was increased to 40 (160 power engineers, 70 units of special equipment).
The process of restoring power supply and carrying out work is difficult due to deteriorating weather conditions, Rosseti reported. The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Dagestan warned that squally winds with gusts of up to 28 m/s are expected in the region on January 12–13.
