The head of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, said in an interview with the Italian edition of Corriere della Sera that Russian athletes who have distanced themselves from a special military operation should be entitled to compete in tournaments under a neutral flag.

“Our goal is to bring back athletes with a Russian passport who do not support military action,” Bach said, noting that Russian athletes did not start hostilities.

At the same time, Bach acknowledged that it would not be easy to implement this proposal, as a number of countries now refuse visas to Russian athletes, and other countries prohibit their athletes from competing with Russians.

Honored coach of Russia in ice dancing Alexander Zhulin, commenting on this statement, noted that none of the Russian athletes would follow such a proposal. He also suggested that Thomas Bach wait until Russia enters the competition under a normal flag.
