Babies’ lives will be at risk if power goes out, Gaza doctor warns

Many babies in need of ventilators will not survive the Gaza Strip blackout, warned senior doctor of the beleaguered coastal enclave, painting a grim picture of the situation at his hospital.
In a video released by Gaza’s Ministry of Health on Sunday, Dr. Fouad al-Bulbul, head of the neonatal department at Al Shifa Hospital, said any power cut would be “catastrophic.”
“Most babies dependent on ventilators will die because we can only save one or two babies, but we can’t save all the babies,” he said.
Al-Bulbul spoke out amid concerns that fuel supplies needed to keep hospital generators running and power flowing are dangerously low. Earlier on Sunday, the UN relief agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) warned that its fuel supplies would run out in three days, threatening humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip.
