The main tasks of Azerbaijan’s “anti-terrorist measures” in Nagorno-Karabakh are close to completion, said Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev in an interview with TRT.

“They report that the main tasks are close to completion. The military targets we identified earlier have already been neutralized. And further, as planned, operations will continue in a targeted manner, on a more limited scale,” he said (quote according to TASS).

On September 19, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense announced the start of “anti-terrorist measures” in Nagorno-Karabakh for the withdrawal of Armenian troops from the region and the “restoration of the constitutional order” of Azerbaijan.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Azerbaijan informed Russia about the “anti-terrorist operation” in Nagorno-Karabakh a few minutes before the start of hostilities. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan indicated that Yerevan did not receive information from Russia about Baku’s intention to begin military operations.

France condemned the beginning of Baku’s hostilities in Karabakh and called for an immediate meeting of the UN Security Council. The French Foreign Ministry added that “nothing can justify such unilateral actions” that pose a threat to the civilian population.
