The governor of the Kurgan region, Vadim Shumkov, said that a flood was moving toward Kurgan and the volume of water was “colossal.” He called for the immediate evacuation of residents of the right bank of Kurgan, as well as residents of the left bank from garden and dacha communities located before the dam.

Mr. Shumkov published in Telegram several photographs, one of which, according to him, shows the “head of the flood.” It is located 10 km from the city and is moving towards Kurgan. He said that most of the water flows through the floodplain, “completely flooding everything around for several kilometers,” and due to the cutting of roads, evacuation “may be difficult or temporarily impossible.”

“Immediately evacuate from SNT, DNT and flooded parts of the microdistricts of the right bank part, as well as those located up to the dam from the left bank of the city of Kurgan SNT, DNT and microdistricts of the city… There is no need to rely on chance and on what was flooded in previous years and that’s all managed,” wrote the Kurgan governor. “This is not just a flood, this is a real threat!” – he emphasized.

In April, the flood situation worsened throughout Russia; it already affected 34 regions. In the Kurgan region from the flood zone evacuated more than 12 thousand people whose houses and plots fall into the flood zone. The Ministry of Emergency Situations warned that the flood could affect 19 thousand residents. According to Roshydromet forecasts, the level of the Tobol River in the Kurgan area expected higher than the 1994 record – from 9 m to 10 m.

About the development of the situation – in the publication “Kommersant” “Big water moves on”.
