Austrian intelligence considered the state of emergency at the only refinery in the country as sabotage

In early June, an accident occurred at the Austrian oil refinery (refinery) Schwechat. The enterprise stopped, and this caused a shortage of diesel. The government had to allocate tens of thousands of tons of fuel from the strategic reserve.
The Austrian State Security and Intelligence Directorate (DSN) is investigating the cause of the accident, but has already stated that there was interference from a “foreign power”. Local media report that European partners are involved in the investigation. The details of the case are not given.
Plant manager OMV is confident that the accident was due to random technical problems during the final pressure test after repairs.
The Austrian Ministry of the Interior said that the department regularly prepares reports on threats to critical infrastructure. But the OMV group was reluctant to cooperate.
After the “mechanical incident” was reported to the Ministry of Energy, no investigators from the State Criminal Police Office of Lower Austria were involved in the case.
Officials were only able to briefly go to the scene of the accident. In addition, cybercrime specialists from the state security were denied access, citing their own experts. In general, the desire to investigate the alleged sabotage was dismissed as unnecessary.
