The return of Nick Kyrgios to the Australian selection will not be for now. The 28th at the ATP, recent Wimbledon finalist and Washington tournament winner, will not participate in the Davis Cup (September 13-18), the Australian Tennis Federation announced on Tuesday, putting an end to speculation about his return to team competition. This Davis Cup window is placed just after the US Open (August 29-September 11).
“It would have been great to have Nick in the team but unfortunately he was not available for this match”Australian Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt said in a statement.
The 27-year-old tennis player hasn’t played in the Davis Cup since 2019, but his solid performances ensured him a place in the selection.
De Minaur and Kokkinakis on display
In Kyrgios’ absence, the Australian squad will be led by Alex de Minaur and Thanasi Kokkinakis. The duo formed by Matt Ebden and Max Purcell will take care of the doubles matches.
Group C members Australia will face Germany, France and Belgium in Hamburg from September 13-18.
