August 2022 is recognized as the hottest in the history of meteorological observations. The temperature record of 2010 was broken this month, Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, said.
“We can already say with confidence that this August in Moscow will be the hottest for the entire period of observations. This is due to the fact that the second half of the month was very hot, a powerful anticyclone was established,” said Mr. Vilfand TASS.
Previously, August 2010 was considered the hottest in Moscow in the history of meteorological observations. Due to abnormal heat and drought, forest fires have intensified in central Russia. By the beginning of August, about 200 thousand hectares of forests were burning throughout Russia. Due to forest fires and fires in peat bogs in Moscow, smog and the smell of burning lingered for more than a month.
In August 2022, several days in a row in Moscow fixed temperature records. From August 25 to 27, several temperature records of 1988 and 1969 were broken in the capital. In the capital, until August 28, there is an “orange”, the penultimate level of danger.
