The purpose of the holiday is not to congratulate the harmful gnat, but quite the opposite: to think about methods of dealing with annoying insects. Mosquito Day was invented by Sir Ronald Ross, a British physician and parasitologist. He discovered that these insects are carriers of malaria. Thus, the scientist drew public attention to the problem of the disease, methods of its prevention and ways to deal with it.
Currently, there is no malaria in Russia, says researcher at the E. I. Martsinovsky Institute of Medical Parasitology, Tropical and Transmissible Diseases, Candidate of Medical Sciences Ivan Vasilievich Patraman. However, the risk of tourist-imported disease remains. No less dangerous is West Nile fever (WNF), which was registered in Moscow last year. According to the specialist, WNV is carried by mosquitoes and can cause serious complications with damage to the nervous system, encephalitis and meningitis.
To reduce the insect population, Rospotrebnadzor recommends chemical treatment, but it is environmentally unsafe and can harm animals, beneficial insects and people. According to Ivan Patraman, there is a safe unique Russian system AEROdestroying only vile.
The specialist claims that in this way it is possible to reduce the mosquito population by up to 88%.
