The Consulate of Bulgaria has notified Russian tour operators that it is suspending the acceptance of documents for tourist visas, reported on the website of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR). It is specified that this decision is temporary, but it is not known when the acceptance of documents will resume.
The reason for this is the decision of the Russian Foreign Ministry to declare 14 Bulgarian diplomats persona non grata in response to the expulsion of 70 employees of the Russian diplomatic mission in the republic, as well as the suspension of the Consulate General in Ruse.
Documents also cannot be submitted through the Bulgarian visa centers in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg, which stopped accepting applications with the payment of the consular fee from March 25 for “technical reasons”. Documents could then be submitted only by those who were exempt from paying the consular fee, that is, close relatives of Russians with a residence permit in Bulgaria, children under 6 years old, as well as members of official delegations.
On June 28, it became known that Sofia was expelling 70 diplomats and technical workers of the Russian embassy, who were previously accused by the country’s authorities of activities that threaten the national security of Bulgaria. The nature of the claims was not specified.
