At the Smolensk State University of Sports, athletics competitions were held for the prizes of Olympic champion Olga Sergeevna Kuzenkova.
She was the first woman to throw a hammer over 70 meters, in 1997. She set world records 6 times from 1994 to 1998. 9 times: in 1992, 1993, 1995 – 1998, 2001, 2002 she was the owner of the best season result in the world. Her personal record in the hammer throw is 75 m 68 cm (set on June 4, 2000 in Tula). Olga always played for the Dynamo club.
At the Sydney Games in 2000, Kuzenkova won an Olympic silver medal. And four years later in Athens, she became an Olympic champion with an Olympic record of 75 m 02 cm.
Competitions in Smolensk for the Kuzenkova prizes brought together athletes from Russia and Belarus under their banners.
The competition participants demonstrated their skills in javelin and hammer throwing. This tournament will be the first in a whole series of international athletics competitions in the Smolensk region this and next year.
