No athlete should suffer from bias in favor of someone’s political interests. This statement was made on Monday, January 29, by Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin, commenting on the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding figure skater Kamila Valieva.

According to Matytsin, international authorities should prioritize the protection of athletes, but now this is not a priority for some of them.

The Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation is taking all measures for effective anti-doping activities in Russia, and as for the CAS verdict against Valieva, it is important to carefully study it from a legal point of view, the head of the department emphasized.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has suspended Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva for four years due to an anti-doping rule violation. Commentator Dmitry Guberniev called this a new attempt to erase Russian figure skaters from world sports and called on Valieva not to give up, emphasizing that the talent of the young athlete our country really needs it.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has meanwhile called introduce criminal liability because of the case of Kamila Valieva, arguing that the use of doping against children is unforgivable.
