Athlete Knoroz praised Chelyabinsk residents for organizing the Russian championship

An athlete with a result of 4.62 meters became the winner of prestigious competitions

One of the participants in the Russian championship in athletics, which was held in the capital of the Southern Urals, was the famous pole vaulter Polina Knoroz. The MK-Chelyabinsk correspondent talked to the athlete after she won the status of Russian champion.

Polina Knoroz was the only girl to overcome the mark of 4.62 meters. But Polina might not have had a gold medal. A day earlier, she took the qualifying height (4.20 meters) only on the third attempt.

— It was the hardest day for all the time of my participation in the competition. I’ve never been so worried! It was emotionally very difficult both during qualifying and after. In the evening I had to drink tea with chamomile, I drank four teapots, but I can’t stand it, ”admitted Polina Knoroz.

The athlete explained the failure by the fact that at the first attempt she waited a long time for the jump and sat up too long, and during the second she had a “soft pole”. The jumper ran too far, because of which he could not withstand the pressure.

At the final for the athlete, everything turned out much better. She overcame high-altitude strips one after another. It seemed that the favorite of the public was jumping absolutely calmly. But the excitement, as she admitted after the performance, did not recede even after the first successful jumps and left her only when she overcame a height of 4.55 meters.

Most of all, the Chelyabinsk pole vaulter Timur Morgunov, who had an affair with Polina Knoroz, was worried about the girl. The athlete said that they cheer for each other at all competitions and even experience more than when they perform themselves. Moreover, they formed a working tandem: Polina, Timur and coach Vladimir Shulgin. Jumper says it’s easier for them to work.

Despite such strong support, the athlete could not overcome the height of 4.73 meters, which she had already stormed as the champion of Russia in athletics.

– I thought that I would jump 4.73 and higher. I have a lot of potential that I can’t realize yet. Maybe due to age, maybe due to inexperience. I walk nearby, but I can’t combine the best jump into one. I need more time, competition and experience, says Polina Knoroz about the failure.

However, the champion liked the attempts to overcome this height, which cannot be said about the result of the competition. The athlete wants to reach a new level. She plans to do so next season. But without international starts it will be hard. Strong athletes lose motivation. Polina admits that she has no one to compete with within the country. She used to fight for medals with Angelica Sidorova until she went on maternity leave. It is good that athletes from Belarus began to come to competitions in Russia.

– Ira Zhuk is playing with us, with whom it is very cool to hack together, and we are pushing each other to a better result. Now it has become more interesting, – Polina rejoices.

The champion paid special attention to the organization of the event. Of course, it’s nice to hear positive feedback about the event in Chelyabinsk, but it’s much nicer to hear it from an athlete who, on the air of a federal TV channel, announced the disgusting organization of the country’s winter championship in Moscow.

– I liked everything. Probably, I say this for the first time, but everything was at the highest level, praises Polina Chelyabinsk.
