Accused flew due to the absence of a lawyer

Over the actress Natalya Drozhzhina, accused of fraud with the property of the family of Alexei Batalov, a sudden threat loomed. The artist, whom her husband Mikhail Tsivin and lawyers tried by hook or by crook to withdraw from the process due to illness, almost lost the right to protection. Because of this, the long-suffering process in the Zamoskvoretsky court had to be postponed once again.

The next episode of the court series was announced for September 9th. The date and time of the hearing was known to the participants in the scandalous process in advance. However, when the parties gathered in the hall at the appointed hour, it turned out that the turnout was incomplete. First, the lawyer of the accused, Igor Katin, went on sick leave. True, his health is hardly a cause for concern: the ballot from the defender is outpatient and only until September 11th. So most likely the lawyer was mowed down by something seasonally cold.

But the second circumstance turned out to be much more serious. Natalya Drozhzhina, at the end of the lawsuit – the debate of the parties was already looming on the horizon – suddenly decided to hire a new lawyer for herself. Why – the artist did not even give a direct answer to this question to the judge Olga Bagrova.

There are at least two options here. Perhaps the actress, with the help of “fresh blood”, hopes to somehow change the line of her own defense and influence the outcome of the case. The second option is more prosaic: the entry of a new participant into the process may slow down the course of the hearings a little. In favor of this option is at least the fact that Drozhzhina’s new lawyer did not come to the meeting today. Moreover, the defender turned out, albeit a simple, but quite effective scheme: he handed over to the court’s expedition a written request to postpone the hearing in advance. Say, the lawyer needs to prepare, get acquainted with the case.

In such a situation, the hearing cannot be continued: the defendant is considered deprived of the right to defense, and this is a direct road to the annulment of the sentence in the future.

Understanding the essence of the scheme that the defense pulled, the judge was furious:

– For what reason the lawyer Shtokolov did not appear at the meeting, to be honest, I do not understand. Such petitions are supposed to be made at the court session, and not to throw them at the court’s expedition, – judge Natalya Drozhzhina scolded and recalled that this is not the first time that the hearing has been disrupted through the fault of the defense. Another such precedent – and the court will take action, Bagrova assured. However, the meeting was postponed until September 23rd.
