Do you want to feel like you are in a literary salon of the 19th century: listen to poets recite poems, and musicians play various instruments, look at burning candles and enjoy tea served by young ladies? If you want, you will have to go to Moscow School No. 2120, where literature lessons in the eighth grade take place in the entourage of a 19th-century literary living room. And their teacher of Russian language and literature Tatyana Chabanets conducts them.
As the teacher says, it is very difficult to get children interested in classical Russian poetry. The standard study of texts is not suitable here, you need to come up with some kind of zest. This highlight was the organization of literary living rooms, where schoolchildren read poetry by candlelight and to the sounds of live music, transform into the images of famous poets, stage unknown facts from their biography.
Moreover, schoolchildren decide for themselves which poet they will talk about, choosing a candidate from those who are currently under the program. For the performance, they need to prepare a bright and colorful presentation, be sure to recite one of the poems of the selected poet themselves and make a literary analysis of it. Scenery, costumes, musical accompaniment and other artistic design of the performance are at the discretion of the participants.
Eight-graders of school No. 2120 have already taken part in the literary drawing rooms dedicated to the poetic work of Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov, Fyodor Tyutchev, Afanasy Fet. The last living room was devoted to the poems of Vladimir Mayakovsky.
“We have not yet studied Mayakovsky’s work, but children from the humanitarian class study in theater studios, read a lot, Mayakovsky attracted them with a style, a system of images, they played this colossus and did it highly artistically,” said Tatyana Chabanets. – The guys ask me to do such lessons more often, but I think that the holiday should not turn into a routine. Soon in the eighth grades there will be a literary battle, and the best performances will be presented by the guys in the literary living room.
