At least 15 people were injured after the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) attacked the Antonovsky Bridge from HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, writes TASS with reference to a representative of local emergency services.
“At around 1 p.m. on August 22, in order to disrupt the work on restoring the roadway, Ukrainian troops launched a strike from American HIMARS rocket systems at the site of repair work on the Antonovsky Bridge. The number of people injured as a result of the Ukrainian aggression is at least 15 people (civilian employees from the local repair and restoration team),” the source said, adding that there were no civilian casualties.
After the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, Russian troops occupied Kherson on March 3. Antonovsky bridge is the only crossing in Kherson across the Dnieper. It connects the city with the left bank of the Dnieper. Its length is about 1.4 km, and its width is 25 m. The Ukrainian military repeatedly subjected it to shelling. In particular, at the end of July, the authorities of the Kherson region even blocked traffic along it, since after the shelling of the Ukrainian military, the roadway was significantly damaged.
At the beginning of August, the regional administration postponed the resumption of traffic on the bridge after another attack from the Ukrainian side, as the blows hit construction equipment that was used for repairs.
The office of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has previously repeatedly announced the preparation of a counteroffensive on Kherson. However, in August, Mikhail Podolyak, assistant to the head of the presidential office, named statements by Ukrainian officials, in particular, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Oleksiy Arestovich, about the preparation of a counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Kherson as part of a psychological operation.
