A penumbral lunar eclipse will occur on Friday evening. It will be observed from 18.14 to 22.31 Moscow time.

According to the Kaluga Museum of Cosmonautics, at the time of the maximum phase, a slight darkening can be seen on the upper (northern) part of the Moon’s disk on the Moon’s disk.

A penumbral eclipse is a phenomenon during which the moon passes through the outer region of the earth’s shadow, called the penumbra. As a result, the brightness of the earth’s satellite decreases, but not very significantly. The effect of dimming part of the moon is usually only noticeable to people with very sharp eyesight or professionals with a trained eye.

However, on May 5, astronomers promise us that rare case when almost the entire disk of the Moon will pass within the Earth’s penumbra so that the decrease in the brightness of our planet’s satellite will be more noticeable than usual.

And yet, in order to see the changes more clearly, experts advise taking pictures of the Moon, preferably with a professional camera, before and during the eclipse, so that you can compare the degree of its brightness.

According to the Moscow Planetarium, during the eclipse, the Moon will be in the constellation Libra. During the largest phase, which will come at 20.23 Moscow time, in most of Russia, the Moon will be located above the horizon.

At this time, almost its entire disk will be in the penumbra of the Earth.
