Astronomer reveals the importance of landing astronauts on the moon

According to Vladimir Surdin, an astronomer and senior researcher at the Sternberg State Astronomical Institute of Lomonosov Moscow State University, science no longer requires sending people to the moon, but the political effect of such a mission is still important. This statement was made during a conversation with RIA Novosti.
Surdin noted that robots are able to perform many tasks and at the same time are much cheaper. In the event of a mission failure with robots, there is no threat to human life. However, the specialist emphasized that in addition to scientific significance, “ideology and politics” are also important.
The astronomer said that Roskosmos has plans to land a man on the moon, but these plans are currently being postponed indefinitely due to insufficient attention of the country’s policy to this issue.
